Upuaut

Upuaut is one of my favorite characters in the book Otherland. He is an abounded god in the virtual ancient Egypt world. some of the protagonists finds him and compare him with Gollum. he says Osiris has abounded him and he promises them to lead them to the city of Osiris. On the way the only thing he does is singing praises to himself. Then he steals their sword and Nileboat and leave them to their destiny in the middle of the desert.

The story takes places in a giant virtual world where a lot of strange things happens on a very unstable network created by the worlds richest mightiest human. There they hope to live forever as gods at the price of several children's lives.
